Emotion Regulation
Emotion regulation plays a crucial role in helping individuals navigate and manage their emotional experiences. Emotion regulation involves developing awareness and skills to understand, accept, and effectively cope with various emotions. Our Therapists work collaboratively with clients to explore the underlying causes of emotional distress, identify patterns of emotional reactions, and implement strategies to modulate intense feelings. By fostering emotion regulation skills, counsellors empower individuals to respond to life's challenges in a more adaptive and controlled manner, ultimately promoting psychological well-being and resilience.
Neurodivergence
Recognizing and embracing neurodivergence is crucial for creating an inclusive and effective therapeutic atmosphere. Mantra Psychotherapy acknowledges and appreciates the inherent diversity in cognitive functioning and neurological processes among individuals. We are also educated and informed on various neurological profiles, such as those associated with conditions like autism-spectrum disorder, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), dyslexia, and others that contribute to the intricate mosaic of human experiences.
Trauma
It is an unfortunate reality that many individuals experience some form of trauma in their lives. Trauma can lead to depression, anxiety, somatic disturbances, and interpersonal issues. We will support you to understand your symptoms and formulate a unique treatment plan that fits your needs. This may take the form of in-session processing of traumatic experiences, self-care plan formulation, and/or psychoeducation around trauma and its effects. In any case, we will work with you to decide which course of treatment is best suited to your needs.
Self-Esteem
Self-esteem problems are experienced by many of us. At Mantra Clinic, we take a compassionate and connection-focused approach that aims to help individuals feel accepted, understood and heard. We may also support you by assisting you with a behavioural plan to create new habits in your life and by addressing and modifying negative patterns of thinking. Regardless of the therapist's approach, they will guide you through techniques, interventions, and tools that will support you on your journey of building your self-esteem with us.
Anxiety
Anxiety has become more prevalent in recent years. Whether your anxiety presents as general worry, social aversion, panic, or otherwise, we are equipped and ready to support you. For individuals who have issues with anxiety, we may support you by helping them address distorted ways of thinking, providing them with skills to help them cope, and providing you with educational material that may help them better understand your symptoms. We will also work with you to help you regain a sense of control and management of your symptoms.
LGBTQ2IA-Specific Issues
We understand that many issues that individuals who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, asexual, 2-spirit, and intersex require a certain understanding of the cultural, socioeconomic, and identity factors that are relevant in therapy. Mantra Psychotherapy is prepared to provide LGBTQ2IA folks with the type of treatment they may require and deserve. We may support you with issues like identity discovery, self-compassion, the effects of marginalization, and navigating LGBTQ2IA+ relationships.
List of Therapeutic Approaches
Couples Therapy
Couples therapy offers a dedicated, supportive, and neutral space to navigate the inevitable challenges that arise in any long-term partnership. It’s not about finding fault or deciding who is "right"; it’s about understanding the underlying patterns that cause disconnection and conflict. Our goal is to help you and your partner move past destructive cycles and establish healthier, more compassionate ways of interacting.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
Mindfulness-based therapy is a therapeutic approach designed to help you connect with your inner experience and the present moment. The central idea is to train your mind to pay attention in a specific way: with intention, purpose, and without judgment. We all experience minds that are pulled into worrying about the future or dwelling on the past. Mindfulness helps you gently bring your focus back to the "here and now," so you can observe your thoughts and feelings as they are, without being overwhelmed by them.
Gestalt Therapy
Gestalt therapy is a unique and powerful approach that focuses on the "here and now." The word "Gestalt" is German for "whole," and this is the core principle of the therapy: it's about helping you become aware of your entire self—your thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations—in the present moment. Instead of simply talking about the past, Gestalt therapy helps you explore how past experiences and unresolved issues are showing up in your life right now.
Narrative Therapy
Narrative Therapy emphasizes the importance of our internal "story" about our lives. This method helps individuals externalize their problems from their identity. By reinterpreting their story in an externalized way, clients often have the opportunity to discover and align with their strengths and values. This process empowers clients to envision a future whereby they hold more autonomy and agency.
Attachment-Based Therapy
Attachment-Based Therapy is conducted around the theory that early relationships with caregivers inform our emotional and relational patterns. This therapy helps individuals understand and heal attachment wounds and unmet needs from these early relationships. Attachment-based therapy aims at promoting emotional wellness and stability through addressing and remediating attachment patterns established in childhood.
Solution-Focused Therapy
Solution-Focused Therapy emphasizes finding solutions rather than focusing on problems. Using a client's strengths and resources, a therapist supports them to foster positive change. Solution-focused therapy focuses on actionable steps to help clients achieve their goals. By emphasizing solutions and future possibilities, a therapist assists clients in making meaningful and lasting changes within a relatively short period of time.
Dialectical-Behaviour Therapy
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based treatment designed to help individuals regulate emotions and improve their relationships. DBT focuses on developing skills to help clients remain present, regulate emotions, and maintain healthier relationships. DBT also aims to help clients recognize the duality in all aspects of life and to tolerate uncertainty and ambiguity.
Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy
Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a highly effective, evidence-based treatment that focuses on the interplay between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. It operates on the principle that negative thought patterns and beliefs can lead to emotional distress and harmful behaviors, which in turn can exacerbate mental health issues.
