Provinces We Serve:

Our Mission

Mantra Psychotherapy is committed to providing our clients with the highest quality of care. We treat each client as an individual with specific needs and qualities. Our approach to psychotherapy is unique and takes into account various biological, sociocultural, and psychological factors to form a dynamic assessment of our clients’ needs. This helps us provide an informed approach to treatment, allowing us to better understand the individual.

Our Approach

Client-Centred Care

Our client-centred approach is tailored to the client’s needs, values and identity. This type of therapy aims to guide and support clients in healing, with the presumption in mind that clients possess the capacity to identify solutions to their problems with the support of a therapist. A client-centred approach is highly collaborative and allows clients to choose their own direction in therapy and to identify what is most important for them to work on with the support of their therapist.

Integrative Approach

We believe that one’s emotions, thoughts/beliefs, and behaviours are interconnected and should be addressed as a system. These three components are viewed in relation to one another and approached holistically. Through interventions that target maladaptive thoughts & beliefs, behaviours, and emotional wounds & reactions, we support our clients to reflect and become more in tune with this system, leading to improved quality of life, better functioning, and increased sense of control.

Skills-Based Counselling

Supporting our clients to acquire skills for coping, self-care, relationships, communication, and self-discovery is key to what we do at Mantra Psychotherapy. We deliver skills training in various ways, including handouts, worksheets, and practicing in session. Psychoeducation is provided to support clients in understanding themselves as they embark on their journey of self-discovery, healing, and personal growth.

Our Areas of Focus

At Mantra Psychotherapy, we are dedicated to providing comprehensive and empathetic care tailored to the unique needs of each individual. Our areas of focus span a wide range of concerns, including LGBTQ2IA-specific issues, anxiety, self-esteem, trauma, neurodivergence, and emotion regulation. Understanding the complexity of human experience, we strive to offer a supportive environment where individuals from various backgrounds and walks of life can find understanding, acceptance, and the specialized care they deserve. Whether you're navigating the journey of identity discovery, grappling with the effects of anxiety or trauma, seeking to improve your self-esteem, embracing neurodiversity, or aiming to regulate your emotions more effectively, our team of compassionate professionals is here to support you through every step of your therapeutic journey.

LGBTQ2IA-Specific Issues

We understand that many issues that individuals who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, asexual, 2-spirit, and intersex require a certain understanding of the cultural, socioeconomic, and identity factors that are relevant in therapy. Mantra Psychotherapy is prepared to provide LGBTQ2IA folks the type of treatment they may require and deserve. We may support you with issues like identity discovery, self-compassion, the effects of marginalization, and navigating LGBTQ2IA+ relationships.

Anxiety

Anxiety has become more prevalent in recent years. Whether your anxiety presents as general worry, social aversion, panic, or otherwise, we are equipped and ready to support you. For individuals who have issues with anxiety, we may support you by helping you address distorted ways of thinking, providing you with skills to help you cope, and providing you with educational material that may help you better understand your symptoms. We will also work with you to help you regain control and manage your symptoms.

Self-Esteem

Many people experience self-esteem problems. At Mantra Psychotherapy, we take a compassionate and connection-focused approach that aims to help individuals feel accepted, understood and heard. We may also support you by assisting you with a behavioural plan to create new habits in your life and by addressing and modifying negative patterns of thinking.

Trauma

It is an unfortunate reality that many individuals experience some form of trauma in their lives. Trauma can lead to depression, anxiety, somatic disturbances, and interpersonal issues. We will support you to understand your symptoms and formulate a unique treatment plan that fits your needs. This may take the form of in-session processing of traumatic experiences, self-care plan formulation, and/or psychoeducation around trauma and its effects. In any case, we will work with you to decide which course of treatment is best suited to your needs.

Neurodivergence

Recognizing and embracing neurodivergence is crucial for creating an inclusive and effective therapeutic atmosphere. Therapists who adopt a neurodivergent-informed perspective understand that various neurological profiles, such as those associated with conditions like autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and others, contribute to the intricate mosaic of human experiences. Valuing neurodiversity in psychotherapy entails tailoring therapeutic approaches to accommodate the distinctive strengths, challenges, and communication styles of neurodivergent clients.

Emotion Regulation

Emotion regulation plays a crucial role in helping individuals navigate and manage their emotional experiences. Emotion regulation involves developing awareness and skills to understand, accept, and effectively cope with various emotions. Our therapists work collaboratively with clients to explore the underlying causes of emotional distress, identify patterns of emotional reactions, and implement strategies to modulate intense feelings. This process may involve teaching clients mindfulness techniques, cognitive-behavioural interventions, and practical coping mechanisms tailored to their unique emotional needs. By fostering emotion regulation skills, our therapists empower individuals to respond to life's challenges in a more adaptive way, ultimately promoting psychological well-being and resilience.
